Internships

The Archives and Library intern will gain hands-on experience in processing, cataloging, digitizing, and learning preservation methods for small- to medium-size archival collections.

The art intern will work with the art department on a variety of projects and events, including processing art collections, preparing exhibitions, and assisting in art-related events.

The education curriculum intern will work with the education team on updating and developing curriculum on Missouri history for educational programs like Historic Missourians and the Hands-On History program.

The education outreach intern will work with the education team on a variety of initiatives and events, including the National History Day in Missouri program and the Hands-On History program.

The event management intern will work on a variety of events, including State Historical Society of Missouri programs and event rentals.

The Oral History intern will gain hands-on experience in all aspects of the oral history process. Interns will learn how to research, write questions, and conduct their own oral history interview to complete their internship. Interns will work on processing interviews and helping to create interview transcripts and summaries. Topics include, but are not limited to the environment, one-room schoolhouses, veterans, politics, and athletics/recreation to name a few ongoing projects.

The preservation intern will assist the conservator with various projects in the conservation lab ranging from making custom boxes to performing a condition survey on a large collection of documents.

The strategic communications intern will work with communications and programming staff to promote the State Historical Society of Missouri, its events, and its program initiatives.
