Volunteer

Join the SHSMO volunteer community and connect with others who want to make an impact by protecting and sharing Missouri’s history and culture.

We invite you to join over 40 volunteers who do integral work across the Society’s six research centers. SHSMO offers a range of volunteer opportunities, including greeting guests at the welcome desk; transcribing historical documents; assisting with data entry; supporting membership outreach; judging at the National History Day in Missouri contest; and helping staff with various projects.

To ensure all volunteers are fully equipped for their roles, SHSMO provides comprehensive training. Please note that volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

SHSMO honors volunteers with service awards and other recognition for their dedication and length of service to the Society. Volunteers also enjoy exclusive invitations to SHSMO events, including exhibit openings, volunteer appreciation luncheons, and an annual volunteer celebration.

I love to read documents from primary sources, which are letters from everyday people who lived and experienced life more than 100 years ago. It helps me understand what events happened, why they happened, and what it means today. ~Bill C.
