The State Historical Society of Missouri offers a wide range of learning opportunities for all ages. Because of your support, SHSMO can:
- Welcome students, teachers, and visitors of all ages to SHSMO research centers for tours and workshops
- Host its signature History on Elm series that features a variety of authors, artists, filmmakers, and scholars who explore a range of topics
- Expand the Historic Missourians website, featuring notable people who influenced the Show-Me State
- Help students put their own stamp on history through the National History Day in Missouri program
SHSMO houses diverse collections at six research centers across the Show-Me state—located in Columbia, Cape Girardeau, Kansas City, Rolla, St. Louis, and Springfield—as well as rapidly expanding its online collections. Because of you, SHSMO can:
- Preserve and house over 9,000 manuscript collections, more than 8,000 maps, and over 56,000 rolls of newspapers on microfilm
- Grow its photograph collection, which features over 100,000 original photographs and postcards
- Provide online access to select born digital photographs, manuscripts, videos, oral histories, and more
- Coordinate the digitization of over 100 newspaper titles each year, providing over 13 million pages and growing
Did you know that SHSMO has a FREE art gallery and welcomes visitors of all ages to the Center for Missouri Studies? From Thomas Hart Benton's Year of Peril series to Fred Geary's regionalist woodcuts to paintings by George Caleb Bingham, SHSMO’s gallery features permanent and rotating exhibitions that help us learn about the past while experiencing world-class art.
