One branch of Peter McCarthy's family tree has been in St. Louis since 1842. The University City native attended Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University), served four years in the US Coast Guard, and then settled in mid-Missouri. He has kept SHSMO's courier system organized since the fall of 1996, which makes him the Columbia Research Center's longest-tenured staff member.
