Missouri History Day, administered by the State Historical Society of Missouri as part of the National History Day contest, recently received a major grant of $15,000 from Missouri Humanities for the 2024-2025 contest year. Missouri Humanities is a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The grant funding will be used for student and teacher workshops, contest venue costs, and to help offset the costs for program supplies and promotional giveaways at outreach events statewide.
“We are so grateful to Missouri Humanities and it’s steadfast support of Missouri History Day,” said Danielle Griego, coordinator of the statewide contest. “The monies from the grant allow us to increase promotion of Missouri History Day program throughout the state, and it will help defray expenses at the regional and state level.”
This year’s National History Day contest theme is Rights and Responsibilities in History. Upcoming workshops include a teacher workshop, Oct. 15, 4:15-7 p.m. hosted by the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum in collaboration with the National WWI Museum and Memorial and Shawnee Town 1929 Museum in Shawnee, Kansas.
The state contest is tentatively set for Saturday, April 26, 2025, on the University of Missouri campus in Columbia. Volunteers are always welcomed and needed to help with the regional and state contests to serve as judges and other roles. For more information on Missouri History Day, visit nhdmo.org.
