Join us for the launch of the Kinder Institute's Global 250 Lecture Series as we approach America's 250th anniversary. Renowned former Justice of the South African Constitutional Court and anti-Apartheid activist Albie Sachs will offer a compelling international perspective on the U.S. at 250, drawing from his experiences in South Africa’s struggle for democracy and justice.

Albie Sachs has held positions as the founding director of the South African Constitutional Studies Centre at University of London, Columbia University Schools of Law and International and Public Affairs, and on the law faculty at University of the Western Cape. He is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town where he received his law degree. In 1994, Sachs was appointed by Nelson Mandela as a judge on the first South African Constitutional Court.

The Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy, in partnership from the State Historical Society of Missouri, is bringing scholars from around the globe to Columbia throughout the Spring 2026 semester to share thoughts on the nation’s semi-quincentennial anniversary from an international vantage point.

The program begins at 5 p.m. A reception will follow Judge Sachs talk. Please register to attend using the RSVP link below.
