You're invited to a free public film screening and community conversation on the classic 1989 film, Road House, loosely based on a true crime story in Northwest Missouri 40 years ago. The film is part of the Show Me film series co-curated by SHSMO and hosted by Ragtag Cinema. The 1989 film stars Patrick Swayze, who plays a legendary bouncer with a PhD in philosophy, trying to save the rowdy bar and fictitious town of Jasper, Missouri, from a crooked businessman.
A community conversation will follow the screening with Richard King, owner of Cooper's Landing and former owner of the Blue Note, and photographer Don Shrubshell, who captured the gruesome scene after the town bully was shot in broad daylight outside a bar in Skidmore, Mo., in 1981. SHSMO's newspaper librarian Katie Ziegler leads the talk on journalism, true crime, and Missouri's bar culture.
Free tickets for the public will be available at the Ragtag Box Office on the day of the screening, Sept. 25, beginning at noon.
