More than 350 country, gospel, and rock performers and groups recorded at Kennett Sound Studios (KSS) in Kennett, Missouri, during its almost 30 years of existence. Owned and operated by musician and songwriter Joe Keene, KSS hosted several well-known performers including Kennett native and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Sheryl Crow. Though its clients traveled from as far away as Norway, KSS primarily served musicians living in southeast Missouri and northeast Arkansas.
Musician and historian Hunter Moore explores the history of Kennett Sound Studios, the stories of the people who recorded there, and the important contributions that KSS and other regional recording studios have made to American popular music. Moore will share photographs and music from the Joe Keene-Kennett Sound Studios Collection at Middle Tennessee State University’s Center for Popular Music.
Moore's presentation is co-sponsored by Budds Center for American Music Studies at the University of Missouri.
About the Presenter: Hunter Moore lives in Nashville, Tennessee and is a native of Charleston and Sikeston, Missouri. He is currently a PhD candidate in Public History at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Moore worked for thirty years as a professional songwriter and performer.
