John Craig Hammond is Associate Professor of History at Penn State University, New Kensington. He is the author of The Centrality of Slavery: Empire and Enslavement in Colonial Illinois and Missouri and the co-editor of A Fire Bell in the Past: The Missouri Crisis at 200, Volume I and A Fire Bell in the Past: The Missouri Crisis at 200, Volume II.
