A fifth-generation Missourian, Gary R. Kremer earned his PhD from American University in Washington, DC. Kremer has written, coauthored, and coedited 12 books. Previously, Kremer taught history at Lincoln University in Jefferson City (1972-1987) and William Woods University in Fulton (1991-2004). He also served as the state archivist of Missouri from 1987 to 1991. He has been SHSMO's executive director since 2004.

Gerald Hirsch is the senior associate director of the State Historical Society of Missouri. He earned his master's degree in library and information science in 1996 from the University of Missouri. He has worked at the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Missouri State Archives. Since joining SHSMO in 2007, he has worked to increase online access to information.

A lifelong Missourian, Abigail Anderson grew up in Brookfield. She holds a master's degree in public affairs and nonprofit management from the University of Missouri. Anderson joined SHSMO in 2016, after stints at both William Woods University and the University of Missouri. Her ancestors and bicentennial family farm were part of the Underground Railroad. The Iowa farm included an underground tunnel connecting to a neighboring homestead and a crop-transport wagon with a hidden compartment for travelers.

Maggie Mayhan grew up in the Show-Me State's capital city. She holds bachelor of arts and master's degrees in English from Truman State University in Kirksville. After joining SHSMO in October 2010 to work with the Missouri Digital Newspaper Project, she became the coordinator of National History Day in Missouri in 2012. She now helps students across the state in grades six through twelve to put their own stamp on history.

While at Stephens, Pace was dual-enrolled as a student at the University of Missouri, where she played trumpet in Marching Mizzou. She joined the SHSMO staff in 2012.

Alexandra Waetjen, originally of San Antonio, Texas, holds a master's degree in museum studies from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor's in environmental studies from Southwestern University. Waetjen started at SHSMO in 2016 as the education outreach coordinator, where she works to increase the Society's educational programs. She is also leading the efforts to plan for the bicentennial of Missouri's statehood in 2021.

A native Missourian, Joan Stack received her PhD in art history from Washington University in St. Louis. She spent five years as curator of European and American art at the University of Missouri's Museum of Art and Archaeology before joining the SHSMO staff as curator of art collections in 2006. Her research interests include George Caleb Bingham, Thomas Hart Benton, and the study of material culture's role in shaping historical memory.

Greig Thompson holds a master of fine arts degree in ceramic sculpture and printmaking from the University of Missouri. Prior to starting at SHSMO in 2006, Thompson was a professor of studio art and art history, teaching at six universities within Missouri over 20 years. He also directed the art galleries of two of those institutions. After studying pottery making, Thompson learned that his ancestor founded one of the earliest potteries in Missouri.

John Brenner is a native of Columbia, Missouri, and a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. After first working as a journalist, he entered the field of scholarly publishing in 1994 and served for 18 years as an editor at the University of Missouri Press. A longtime member of SHSMO before joining its staff in 2012, he became managing editor in 2014.

An eighth-generation Ozarker, Kimberly Harper earned a master's degree in history from the University of Arkansas. She joined the State Historical Society of Missouri in 2007. She received the Missouri Humanities Council's Distinguished Achievement in Literature (Non-Fiction) Award for her book White Man's Heaven: The Lynching and Explusion of Blacks in the Southern Ozarks, 1894-1909, which was first published in 2010. Harper enjoys exploring the state's many back roads.

Frank Nickell is an emeritus faculty member of the Department of History at Southeast Missouri State University. He has received numerous teaching and service awards, including the Missouri Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and the 2012 SHSMO Distinguished Service Award. In 2013 Nickell joined the staff at SHSMO, where he continues to prepare scores of entertaining, inspiring, and ever-popular public speeches and lectures (including an award-winning radio show).

Genevieve's planning and zoning administrator.

Kevin George received both a master's degree in library and information science and a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Missouri. A native of the Texas Panhandle, he moved to Missouri in 2005. His first assignment at SHSMO was to digitize the Tom Engelhardt editorial cartoon collection in the fall of 2013. He became a grants assistant in 2014 and then took over as the interlibrary loan librarian in September 2014.

The University City native attended Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University), served four years in the US Coast Guard, and then settled in mid-Missouri. He has kept SHSMO's courier system organized since the fall of 1996, which makes him the Columbia Research Center's longest-tenured staff member.

Even though she grew up on the other side of the Mississippi River, Heinzmann is a fervent supporter of the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals.

John Bradbury began working for the Western Historical Manuscript Collection when its office in Rolla opened in 1980 and served as assistant director at the Research Center–Rolla after WHMC merged with SHSMO in 2011. He retired and was appointed a Center for Missouri Studies senior fellow in 2015. Bradbury has written, edited, and compiled more than 90 scholarly articles and books, and is also the author of countless book reviews, newsletter stories, and outreach publications.

He graduated from the University of Missouri¬–St. Louis with a master's degree in history in 1991. Fischetti's undergraduate work, also at UMSL, was in secondary education. He started working at the Research Center–St. Louis in January 1990 as a graduate assistant and became a full-time employee a year later. Fischetti was promoted to associate director in 2000.
