National History Day in Missouri Medalists Advance to National Competition

The NHDMO 2022 Awards Ceremony was held virtually this past weekend, and we are so proud of our 55 medalists who will move on and represent Missouri at the national contest!

These state finalists, having advanced from regional competitions around the state, represented the best of over 5,000 middle and high school students participating in the 2021-2022 program, which is sponsored by the State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO).

The first and second place medalists will serve as delegates to the National History Day Contest, which is being held as a virtual contest in June. Third place medalists are alternates, ready to step in and represent Missouri.

Thank you to our students, parents, teachers, volunteer judges, and all our supporters for making NHDMO a success!

In case you missed it, the 2022 Awards Ceremony is available free and online from SHSMO On Demand.

  • National History Day in Missouri 2022 Awards Ceremony

National History Day in Missouri (NHDMO) is a unique opportunity for middle and high school students to explore the past in a creative, hands-on way by producing a documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website on a topic of their choosing. Watch as NHDMO Coordinator Danielle Griego, PhD, announces the 2022 state contest award winners.

Special thanks to SHSMO Executive Director Gary R. Kremer, Missouri Governor Mike Parson, Southwest Regional Coordinator Bill Fischer, Northwest Regional Coordinator Sarah Naramore, Mid-Missouri Coordinator Elizabeth Ray, Greater Kansas City Coordinator Mark Adams, and SHSMO's Katie Seale, AJ Medlock, Zack Palitzsch, Ann Lowe, and Sean Rost for their introductions to the NHDMO 2022 Awards Ceremony.

We are grateful for all our NHDMO students, parents, teachers, regional coordinators, volunteer judges, and sponsors. This program is possible because of you!

The State Historical Society of Missouri proudly administers National History Day in Missouri. Over 6,000 students participate in the program each year, with nearly 600 advancing to the state contest in April. Due to COVID-19, the state contests in 2020, 2021, and 2022 were held virtually.

Through the National History Day in Missouri program, SHSMO transforms the way kids view history. Students learn about their world and themselves by creating hands-on research projects and competing in successive local, state, and national contests.
