The 2020 National History Day in Missouri State Contest presented unique challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic was responsible for closing schools and canceling events all over Missouri, the U.S., and the globe.
We felt it was important to move forward with National History Day in Missouri this year and honor the hard work of Missouri students, some who will be competing for their last year as they move on to college and other post-high school pursuits. Thanks to the dedication of 130+ volunteer judges and the resiliency of Missouri's students, we were able to offer National History Day in Missouri as a virtual contest.
These state finalists, having advanced from regional competitions around the state, represented the best of over 5,000 middle and high school students participating in the 2019-2020 program, which is sponsored by the State Historical Society of Missouri (SHSMO).
The first and second place medalists will serve as delegates to the National History Day Contest, which is being held as a virtual contest in June. Third place medalists are alternates, ready to step in and represent Missouri.
