In conjunction with the 2021 Black History Month theme, Black Family: Representation, Identity, and Diversity, the State Historical Society of Missouri presents Historic Images of Black FamiliesThis case exhibition in the Ellis Library Colonnade opens on February 8, 2021, and is on display throughout the semester. Focusing on artworks and photos from SHSMO collections, the show explores the various ways African American families have been depicted in 19th and 20th-century art. Included are lithographs by Thomas Hart Benton, editorial cartoons by Tom Engelhardt, and vernacular photographs by anonymous photographers.
