With many sports leagues suspending their 2020 seasons due to COVID-19, Oral Historian Sean Rost takes a look back at how Missourians returned to sporting events in 1920 at the end of the Spanish Flu Pandemic. This presentation will highlight notable sporting events and organizations in the state, including the 1919-20 University of Missouri men's basketball team and its "nearly" perfect season, the Bloomer Girls and their baseball barnstorming tours, the Missourians who participated in the 1920 Olympics, and the successful African American high school and college football teams that competed in the Interstate Athletic Association. Meanwhile, make sure to check out the corresponding children's program on July 21 that highlights Missouri sports in the 1920s. Online and free. Registration is required.
