The State Historical Society of Missouri invites kids of all ages to our inaugural Children’s Storytime held at the Center for Missouri Studies. As we kick off a season of new beginnings, SHSMO Oral Historian Sean Rost will read about the state’s most reliable source of change, adventure, escape, and reinvention—its rivers. He will begin by introducing young readers to Dan & Connie Burkhardt’s classic work, Growing Up on the River: Nine Generations of the Missouri, a beautifully illustrated book featuring the original work of Missouri artists. It tells the story of nine generations of families who came of age along the Missouri River. Guests will then hear excerpts of Mark Twain’s entertaining account of his time as a steamboat captain in Life on the Mississippi.
