Erin Purdy grew up in southeast Georgia. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami in Florida and a master’s degree from Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia. Before joining SHSMO in 2021, Erin worked as curator for the Broward County Library Special Collections in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as a tour guide, researcher, and curatorial volunteer at Cumberland Island National Seashore in St. Marys, Georgia, and as a theatrical costume assistant in Miami. She also helped develop the Certified Tour Guides of Savannah program in 2016. Although she never lived in the Midwest before relocating with her partner in 2020, her great-grandfather Joseph E. Purdy was an award-winning Missouri cattleman who showed state and national champion bulls.
