Welcome to the 2007 meeting of the Missouri Conference on History in St. Louis!

The Program Committee has done an excellent job in assembling what I hope you will find to be a stimulating conference that showcases some of the most innovative research and historical activities relating to Missouri.

In April, you will find in your packets a good deal of information about St. Louis and the region. I know that the Conference will focus your attention on the scholarly sessions, individual discussions and the keynote address in the Crowne Plaza Hotel. I hope that you will find time to venture forth and visit some of the many historic sites and repositories in the area. St. Louiss rich heritage is one of its great assets, and as historians, you will particularly appreciate the dedication, skill and care with which your colleagues have preserved, displayed and interpreted that heritage.

I hope you have a rewarding 49th Annual Conference. Enjoy your visit to St. Louis!

Best wishes
Louis Gerteis
